What is Human Resources Management??
Many people will reply, “Isn’t that about hiring and firing people?”
That response is: WRONG! HRM is so much more than that…
Organizations are realizing that quality employees are a strategic aspect in competition. Managing those employees effectively directly impacts the achievement of the organization’s objectives.
On a broad level, human resource management is designed to acquire a competent workforce and create an overall organizational climate that maximizes employee satisfaction and efficiency, subsequently contributing to the attainment of organizational goals.
When considering HR as a career, you should know the broad scope of opportunities you can pursue. There are a wide variety of areas one can specialize in within the HR field.
Some examples include:
- Labour relations
- Employee relations
- Human resource information management
- Staffing
- Organizational learning, training, and development
- Organizational effectiveness
- Workplace health and safety
- Total compensation
